Colonial City and Typical Fishermen Village

(8 days, 7 nights)

Granada, colonial city, its monuments and its history ; The natural reserve of the Mombacho volcano –Masaya National Park- the villages and their folklore- San Juan del Sur in the Pacific Coast.
This program combines some sightseeing and soft adventure days, and relax by the beach. A lot of free days to choose optional activities or just relax and enjoy your time!

Day 1 : Managua airport-Hotel in Managua

Arrival in Managua, transfer to your hotel in Managua.

Day 2 : Managua- Masaya- Granada-

After breakfast, we will leave Managua and go for a day tour:
First we will visit the First National Park created in Nicaragua in 1979, that of the still active Masaya Volcano. Then we will visit the finest Handicraft Market where you can enjoy the creativity and variety of Nicaraguan art at bargain prices. Later, lunch in Catarina with a magnificent view on the Apoyo lagoon, Mombacho volcano, Granada and Lake Nicaragua. In the afternoon, we will go to San Juan de Oriente, famous for its ceramic arts. Then, we will continue our way and reach the city of Granada. Accommodation in your hotel and free evening in Granada.

Granada: This treasure of architecture was built by the Spanish conquistadors in year 1524. Symbol of the Spanish colonization, the city is ion process of renovation: old monuments, churches and pre-Columbian museum… Horse-drawn carriages are the most romantic way to discover the “Great Sultana”. Many bars are waiting for you, around the Central Park. The city is now widely opened to tourism.

Days 3 and 4 : Granada-Optional activities

Free days in Granada to visit this touristy city. Optional activities available, like a boat ride in Lake Nicaragua and the Islands, the Apoyo Lagoon and its pristine waters, kayaking in Lake Nicaragua, as well as the Canopy Tour and more…

Day 5 : Granada- Natural Reserve of Mombacho volcano- - San Juan del Sur

In the morning we will pick you up in your hotel. From Granada, we will drive to the shores of the Mombacho volcano. From there, you will reach the top of the mountain, thanks to a special truck. Drive through the coffee plantations, and then arrive at 3 500 ft above see level. There you will enjoy a walk (soft hike) in the tropical forest, around one of the craters. It will take you one and a half hour to circle the crater. Observe this impressive nature, where can be found more than=n 700 species of plants and flowers. The vents will remind you we are hiking in a volcano. Also you will enjoy spectacular views to Lake Nicaragua and the islands.
Then we will enjoy a delicious typical lunch, in a restaurant located in the shores of the volcano.
Optional today: The Canopy Tour (Top Tree Trail).

After lunch, we will drive south to reach San Juan del Sur, typical village of fishermen located in the south pacific side of the country.
Accommodation in your hotel.

Located in a 2 kilometers bay in front of the Pacific Ocean, the small village has a population close to 2000, most of them being dedicated to fishing and trade. The pier is one of the main points of interests; don’t miss the boats coming back from fishing after weeks spent offshore!

Many restaurants spread along the coast in front of the beach. You should try the Ceviche (marinated fish) with a Toña (local bier), during the pelicans dive to get their meal…

Days 6 and 7 : San Juan Del Sur-Beach and Optional activities

Free days in San Juan to enjoy the different activities available there. From San Juan, you have the possibility to visit other beaches (taxis) as Majagual that offers white sand and a seafood restaurant, La Flor (often visited by turtles to lay their eggs), El Coco…


Day 7 : San Juan del Sur- Managua

Around 4.00. pm, we will pick you up in San Juan and will drive north. On the way we will stop at San Jorge and go to the pier, to observe from very close the 2 majestic volcanoes: The Concepcion, perfect conic formation, and the Maderas, that hosts a tropical forest.
Transfer to Managua, to spend the last night before boarding your flight back to your country. Arrival in Managua around 7.00. pm. Accommodation in your hotel. Free night in Managua.

Day 8 : Managua-Airport

After breakfast, transfer to the international airport to board your flight.
Also, possibility to extend to Costa Rica or to take an other extension in Nicaragua (eco-tour or beach trip).

Package includes :

7 hotel nights (Economy or Superior):

  • 2 hotel nights in Managua,
  • 3 hotel nights a Granada
  • 2 hotel nights in San Juan del Sur.

Meals:

  • Breakfast included, days 2 and 8;
  • Lunch included on days 2 and 5. One drink per person per meal, extra drinks are charged.
  • A breakfast costs $ 3 to 4 in average. You need to spend $ 5 to 10 for each other meal.
  • All the transportation and transfers as mentioned in the program, in vehicles in excellent conditions, with air conditioning.
  • A specialized guide for the tours, days 2 and 5. (full day tours).
  • All the activities mentioned and included in the program and the entrance fees (Masaya, Mombacho…). Other optional tours are not included.
  • Expenses of the guide-driver.
  • Upon arrival day, we will provide with documentation about the country, including a map of the country and information about the areas to be visited.

Not included:

  • Taxes at the airport (in and out)
