The Cerro Negro Active Volcano
Come and experience Nicaragua’s most impressive volcano!

Born in 1850, it is one of the most active volcanoes in Nicaragua. Cerro Negro “Black Mountain” is the most recent of a group of four very young cinder cones in the central Maribios.

From Managua we will head up to the north and from Leon, drive 45 minutes in a black sandy road in the remote countryside and reach the volcano in a 4x4 vehicle. A pace hiking to the top starts up your energy, and the overwhelming view once we reach the active crater will be the reward you had ever imagined!!!

After a walk around its crater we will hike down. It takes around one hour to reach the top of the volcano. A lot of smoke comes out from the crater and different crevasses, and makes this walk really impressive.

Hiking down is an experience too, walk or run down this big “black dune” (1200 ft/400 meters) if you feel like!

Drive back to the City of Léon, return to Managua or stay in Leon.

Note: good physical condition required for this tour.

Juan Venado Nature Reserve

From las Peñitas or Salinas Grande, take a boat, go visit Isla Juan Venado. This Island located in the north pacific is 22 kms long and hosts lots of birds, caimans in the mangroves. The boat ride will take approximately 3 hours. Stop in a beach to swim, a small rancho is waiting for you. Soft drink included.

Then, you can enjoy a delicious sea food lunch right in front of the water in a restaurant at Las Peñitas beach.

City tour Leon (Tue-Sun)

Go for a city tour in Leon, which was the capital of Nicaragua for more than 200 years. Visit the main churches, the Cathedral (hike the tower to get an amazing view of the city and volcanoes), as well as a magnificent Art Gallery with painting from Europe and Central America, distributed in 2 colonial houses.
